Brass is a combination of copper and zinc, which is very durable, but over time some pieces can naturally tarnish from oxidation. In a lot of creations, brass components that are weathered and have already undergone this process are purposely chosen. The patina that forms not only helps protect the metal, it also provides a vintage and often rustic look to add to the character and beauty of the piece.

Since brass contains copper, those with sensitive skin or are allergic to copper should avoid brass jewelry, as it is not hypoallergenic. If your skin becomes irritated after wearing any piece of jewelry for that matter, please do not continue to wear it! Also always remove your jewelry before cleaning, performing sports or going into a pool, as additional exposure to chemicals and elements can damage the piece and ruin the finish.
